UPP 2013 Summer Series Send-Off - FREE
Mashapaug Pond Boating Center behind Ocean State Job Lot
361 Reservoir Avenue
UPP presents a season finale to our 2013 summer workshop series. On
three Saturdays in July, three different artist/naturalist pairs engaged participants in reflective activities to continue the observance of
Mashapaug Pond's environment and natural beauty.
On September 21, UPP founder Holly Ewald and poet Laura Brown LaVoie,
along with neighborhood youth, will present an encore celebration of original artworks to expand public awareness and encourage stewardship
of Mashapaug Pond and the Lower Pawtuxet River Watershed. The event will begin with a screening of video and animation projects produced during
UPP-supported residencies and workshops held throughout 2013. The culminating documentary created by Richard Goulis shares the public
workshop experiences of summer participants who explored the pond area's plant life and water from both a scientific and artistic point of view.
This will be followed by a launch of candlelit ice boats designed by Ewald that incorporate original poems created during the Summer Series, accompanied by a reading of the poems.
